If you need the police dial 911 of you are in the United States or look up the number for the local police and keep it be the phone. Use BIG letters so you can see it or pre-program it into the phone.

When you call, stay clam. State your name and address clearly and slowly so you will be understood. Tell them what is happening and it is scaring you. DO NOT PLAY ON THE PHONE WITH THE POLICE. Only call in an emergency.

I found this question on Australian yahoo answers, so in the case that you are in Australia, the number is 000. I guess we have so much American content in our media, that people don't know our local emergency number. So it is a completely valid question : "What is the number for 911 in Australia?"
