Someone lost their Bank of America Debit Card... I found it. What now?

Question

Hello, I was biking through a small town and ran over someone's B of A debit card. I turned back and took it. What do I do with it now? I looked up the person's name in the phone book and tried calling them and they wouldn't pick up. The bank is closed tomorrow. Should I give it to the bank? or should I try to contact the person? help?

P.S. NO I will NOT take the money at an ATM machine... that's just dumb.

banks have a drop box near the drive threw windows. put it in an envelopes and put it in there. the card will get to the person.

You could bring the card into any bank and turn it in, or you could just cut it into shreds and throw it away. The person who owns it has undoubtedly reported it as lost, and the bank will have cancelled their account and will be sending them a new card with a new number.

(You couldn't use it at the ATM anyway, unless you happen to know the card owner's PIN.)

Bank of America customer service should be open 24/7. There should be a toll free # on the back of the card.

You're very nice for asking this question. Honestly just cut it up. Chances are the person is not going to find it at any bank you drop it off at. Plus, when they find out its lost and they call the bank the bank will close the card right away and mail them a new one. Just cut it up and throw it out.

~~It would be best to deliver to the bank. What happens is the person reports it and then they are issued a new card. Without the pin it's's worthless. But for the person's peace of mind, it wouldn't hurt to let them know you found it. They may want to come pick it up.~~

I would take it back to the bank and explain to someone there that you found it. Chances are the person that lost it has already noticed and canceled the card but it still wouldn't hurt anything.
