Hi, I just received an email confirmation of a payment that I did not authorize. It has a name of the person, address, and everything. Is it real? or is it a scam? because I clicked on a link that said something about Dispute Transaction, and then my browser told me the website I was going to is trying to harm my computer.

  1. It's definitely a scam. Don't put in any info.

One easy way to catch this garbage is to mouse over the link in the email.  In your status area you should be able to see the REAL address the link will take you to, which will undoubtedly be different from what you see.

When in doubt, don't do it.  Check your account by going directly to paypal.  Report the phishing email (that's what it is) by forwarding it to spoof@paypal.com

If you're really worried, call their customer service.

  2. It's a scam.  You can report the e-mail to PayPal, just go to paypal.com, click on "Security Center" in the upper right hand corner, then click on "Report fake (phishing) e-mail".  Then they tell you exactly what to do, just to make sure you weren't a victim of any fraudulent charges.

I also recommend scanning your computer with a good anti-virus, to be sure that by clicking that link, you weren't infected.

    Hope this helps.

Note: This is a very common phishing scam, hints to look for are misspellings in the e-mail, using symbols where they shouldn't be, in order to bypass spam filters.

  3. It's a scam....log into paypal normally and see if the transaction is there. If not it's a scam and ignore it.

  4. contact paypal

    https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cm...

  5. It's a scam, known as phishing. If you want to make sure, type in paypal.com into your browser and then you can check the transactions in your paypal account.

  6. It's a scam and they're trying to get your PayPal log in details from you.

If it was a real email from PayPal, it

    a) would have your own real name on it

    b) wouldn't be asking you if you want to dispute the transaction

Forward it to spoof@paypal.com and wait for their reply, but they'll tell you it didn't come from them for sure.

Even clicking on the link could have laid your computer open to some 'nasties' so make sure that you run an antivirus, etc check as soon as you possibly can.

Then, particularly if you entered any information at all in the 'dispute' link, change your PayPal password as soon as you know your computer is clean  (go direct to the site and log in there, don't try to access it from any links).

  7. It's probably a scam never click the links in your email, go to the website directly (type it in yourself in a web browser) because when you click on a link it could say www.paypal.com, but thats only the text, the hyperlink will then direct you to a spoof web site that looks almost the same as the real one.

  8. it's probably a scam. Log into you pay-pal account and see if there's a  new transaction listed on it.
