I agree it sounds rather silly, but what was the cause of his fight with the French? If it arose from his correct insistence that 'fries' were first created in Belgium and not in France, it could have been a French over-reaction. Maybe he wanted them to be called 'Belgian Fries'.

i think it's really dumb.. i heard back in like 2005ish that they were going to call it Freedom Fries instead of French Fries.

That is extremly dumb considering that french fries weren't even orignated in france. Watched this whole show about it, but forgot whey they were called 'french' fries. Plus protesting over the name of a food item? Find better theings to protest over.

As foolish as it may sound it - there was an actual method to the madness which worked to a point.

  By going extreme in the protest against a so called political friend made them aware that we (as a people in general) were totally upset with their choice.

  There was actually a strong statement made by that. It told them that even their cheese and wine was not enough to boycott - we were boycotting THEM - not just the stuff they were selling in this country.
