Someone please explain the hazards associated with alpha particles and human tissue?

ok...so by ionization you mean to say that they are taking electrons from the atoms in the body?

Alpha particles are highly charged but have a very short range.  It is not an external hazard as the particles can not penetrate the skin.  However, they can do a lot of damage internally if an alpha emitter is inhaled or ingested.  They cause direct ionization of cell structures and ionized cells do not work properly and die.
