  1. I have no answer to the drivel that I have read on this post. Mohammed help you all, because God can't.

  2. The term 'postmodernism' is wide open to interpretations.

Some maintain it is nothing more than a current fashion in art and literature, others that the world, or at least Western societies, are entering a distinct new pattern of culture and social order called postmodernism, created by new developments in technology..

    Put very roughly:

'Modernism' - based around industrial production.

    - mechanical technology.

    - many natural constraints still exist.

    - rational thought and science shape popular culture.

    'Postmodernism'

    - information processing and biotechnology.

    - natural constraints reduce (e.g. fertility is controlled, s*x changes are possible).

    - science specialised beyond the grasp of non-experts leads to 'techno-primitivism'. Many people rely upon technologies which they do not understand at all, any more than primitive people understood the natural processes such as weather or seasons which shaped their lives.

(E.g. most boys who grew up in the 1950's understood much more about railway operations than modern ones do about aviation).  We know much less about the workings of the systems we rely on.

If by any chance you have read any of Iain M. Banks' 'Culture' series of sci-fi books, that will give insight into the way 'postmodernists' think societies are developing.

  3. You have to "add it" to an essay?!?  Eh? Take another look at the essay q, and ask another Q about it specifically - I think you might be missing out on understanding some fundamental principles.  Have you tried to read any texts about either?

If you have and are getting confused, the best thing i can say to help is postmodern - fragmented, modernism - not so much so.

    might be helpfull -

  4. You're doing sociology and you don't know that ?

What the **** have you been reading?! Giddens?!

  5. Post M refers to the idea of looking at social events etc by deconstructing them piecemeal and looking at the relationships between the pieces and also realizing that between those pieces are great leaps of invented connections we socially create. Modernism refers to a singular linear thought of this causes that

  6. Postmodernisation means :- an identifiable period in the history or development of something.

Modernis means:- the revolutionary ideas and styles in art, architecture, and literature that developed in the early 20th century as a reaction to traditional forms.
