I live in southern New Mexico with my family. About a month ago, I rescued a female Pit Bull puppy and named her Sandy. She was skinny and had muzzle/forehead scars. After weeks of taking care of her, she has fully recovered. When I rescued her, my family would not let her live inside the house so every time she goes to bed, I would have to tie her to a tree. I always let her out all day with my other dogs and of course, I watch them.

On the following August 30, 2008, someone stole Sandy. I always wake up at 6 am to let my dogs play. When I approached to her doghouse, she was not there. It looks like someone took her collar and chain off. It wasn't broken. I doubt she ran away.

I called the cops, and they came over. They weren't helpful and caring. I had photos of Sandy and they refused to take it. I suspect there may be pit fighting in my town and the cops won't do anything about it. I also went to the dog pound and no Sandy.

I forgot to add that someone dropped her off at my place and sped away. My family told me that it wasn't the first time, because 9 times it had happened, and all were pit bulls.

I want Sandy back. I was trying to find her forever home.

Can you help me with anything?

  1. Sounds like a setup to me. They couldn't handle the dog so they dropped her off until she was better and then picked her up again. Post fliers and alert your SPCA or humane society that she's missing and that you suspect she could be used for fighting. Fliers can have pictures and shelters, humane societies, and SPCA offices will often let you put pictures up.

People steal pit bulls in an attempt to fight them. If she had face scars then she had probably been fought before. Good luck finding her!
