Someone tapping my home phone!?!?

Question

For some reson, everytime I use the phone, or anyone else in my family, it acts all funny. It echos, sounds like it's off the hook, and just hangs up on it's own! I ask the person on the other line if they have a phone off the hook, and they don't, and i don't either. When it echos, no one has it on speaker phone, and I'm not sure about the hanging up. What's going on? Is the government tapping my house phone or something?

Well, the government has the right to do that according to the patriot act. But then again, they can only do it if they have reason to believe that you're some sort of threat.

As for the chance of it being tapped by someone else, that's illegal and you should inform the police. They could figure out what's going on.

Report it to your phone company.  It's a problem for them to fix.

If a government agency were tapping your phone, you wouldn't know about it.

I had the same problem but it turnes out that builders in my garden (building a new garden wall) had dug through the virgin media cable and when the rain got in it fuc*ked it up, and i picked up the phone up and it was crackling, and nearly deafning me!, your line probably isnt being bugged (unless you are a crook or are a vip or something), you should try a neibours phone and see if its working (incase its an area fault), then try ringin your house from your mobile and when ringing if you hear the noise you hear when you pick the phone up then its a fault, you will probably need a new telephone cable, from virgin media or bt or whoever.try using a diffrent phone first, though if you hear the noise you hear when you pick the phone up when you ring it then its a fault with the phone line.
