i've heard this phrase in so many songs " raised on promises" what does that mean?

"raised on promises" signifies lots of yearning for things that never materialized.  In the speaker's childhood, they were probably promised good things time and again by a parent figure, and the parent never delivered on those promises.  They survived on a steady diet of hope, which left them empty, wistful, and hungry for something more substantial.

It could mean the whole generation.  Fluffed up with novelties and ideas of luxury with no consequence.   Have it all, take it all, don't ask where it comes from.  Then grow up and surprise it was all fantasy.  Or if you had parents that sheltered you and spoiled you, and you found out as an adult on your own just how bad that could be for development and problem solving.

  3. It could mean that in their child hoods they were promised a lot of things that fell through. Like being promised to go to the zoo and the parents never do it. Meaning that they're never used to having someone or something to rely on, because it always falls through. Does that make sense?
