  1. I've heard that a score of 500 on each section is considered average.

His essay score is pretty good though.

  2. Average to below average depending on what state you're in. I'm from D.C. and I'd consider that to be below. Sorry.

  3. I would say he is in the 60-75% range (give or take).  That is not great but it is not the end of the world either.  He could probably get into a state school with a score like that.  Two options: if you feel the score is an inaccurate representation of his abilities have him retake it.  Or have him begin at a community college, get good grades and then apply to a higher quality undergrad. school based on a combination of his grades and SAT scores.  This way he may be able to get into a better university than if he were to apply based on his SAT scores alone.

  4. His total score is an 1150. You add the math, crit. reading, and writing together. It is tough to say what average is on the SAT. He did not score well enough to get him into most colleges with competitive admissions. However, if his grades are solid, he may not need a high SAT score to earn admission to some state schools or lesser known private schools.

While your son may not have done a great job on the SAT, it is by no means a reason for him to give up on the idea of college. This may sound tired, but a lot of bright kids struggle on standardized tests. Consider an SAT prep course, or search for schools that emphasize grades or extracurriculars over test scores. Good luck!

  5. It's below average.

    He should deff. retake them.

Unless he's planning on going ot a community college.
