  1. I work at a childcare in my church, which is also a preschool..

    1) Yes, to an extent. Most snacks are relatively healthy, with a few exceptions. It depends on what the children are learning about, and any snacks that are related to the lesson. It doesn't matter what the children bring to lunch, this just includes our provided snacks.

2)Yes. The older children simply bring a lunch. We are happy to help open any tricky packages, like yogurt, or cheese, but simply ask not to bring anything that needs to be specially heated, or cooled. The younger children (2's and under) bring their lunch, and maybe a snack as well. The same guidelines as above, and not all children bring a snack. We also supply one. If the child is particularly picky, or has many allergies, they usually bring their own snack.

    3) We try our best to plans snacks around the food allergies. If one child in the class is allergic to peanut butter, we try to avoid using peanut butter in snacks/activities. We usually have an alternative ingredient in case of food allergies

    4) Young children are able to bring a cup of their own (sippy cup) as long as their name is on it. If they do not bring one, they are given a drink at snack time, or can sip water from the water fountain.

    5) Depends. Most children at the preschool:

One snack, if they are there for a half day

One snack, lunch, possibly another small snack if it is whole day

    -Summary-

We do incourage healthy eating habits, as do most preschools or childcare programs. We talk about making healthy decisions, which foods are best for our bodies, and explain that junk food is not the best to eat, but okay to have once in a while.
