when O'Hara sued the state I think it has nothing to do with it I think it is because the parents don't get involved with their children in school and has nothing to do with any kind of prayer

  1. Prayer is part of the reason why the schools are so much worse, but there were other factors going wrong at the same time, such as bad TV, drugs, mothers working instead of nurturing their families so others had to watch out for the children, and some became latch-key kids.  There are many factors such as parents into drugs and drinking, bad neighbors (because the trouble is everywhere and the tensions are high), lack of prayer in the homes and lack of Bible reading and study in the homes, churches getting worse because people come in with too much stress, not enough love in the churches, and helps, and too much gossiping and judgmental spirits, rebellion of children due to changes in culture, atheists taking the truth out of the textbooks and bringing in lies---changing history in the books, encouraging s*x in kids in grade school by wrong teaching and passing out condoms, etc.

  2. Yeah, I told you that. It's true. Deny it all you want. Cobb!

  3. I never prayed in school. Did anyone here ever pray in school?

I think parent's need to pray with their children before they send them to school. Let the schools focus on education.

  4. I don't think that had anything to do with it.  I think it was when both parents went to work and strangers had to raise the children.

  5. It didn't help.

  6. Schools are just fine without prayer, why teach ignorance?

  7. The separation of church and state is fundamental to our form of government.

Once you start incorporating a state religion into a government you open the door to self-righteousness, hatred, oppression, and abuse.

Anyone who wants that kind of government should move to Iran.

  8. DARRELL SCOTT TESTIMONY

Guess our national leaders didn't expect this, hmm? On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful. They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:

"Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

"The f irst recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent.

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy-it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. "I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best. This was written way before I knew I would be speaking here today:

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,

    Your words are empty air.

    You've stripped away our heritage,

    You've outlawed simple prayer.

    Now gunshots fill our classrooms,

    And precious children die.

    You seek for answers everywhere,

    And ask the question "Why?"

    You regulate restrictive laws,

    Through legislative creed.

And yet you fail to understand,

That God is what we need!

"Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and reek havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restr ictive laws. "Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes-He did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America, and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA - I give to you a sincere challenge. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone!

My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"

  9. I think O'Hara  had something to do with it, to limit the schools liability

  10. It has nothing to do with prayer.  They didn't have prayer when I went to school in the 60's or 70's either.

The biggest problem is economics.  Both parents have had to work since the 1980's, therefore, not enough time is given to the children and many times children come home to an empty house.  There isn't anyone to teach them.  Many children start their life in a daycare which makes matters worse.

Another reason for unruly children, (Unruly children makes it hard for the teacher to teach), Generation X, the generation after mine, tend to not parent their child, but to be their child's friend.  These children don't have any respect for anyone.

See, prayer is the least of the problems.

  11. That is true but we as christians needs to educate our kids that even though they took prayer out of the school, they didn't take it out of their hearts and they can still pray to GOD amongst themselves. GOD will still hear them. They took it out of the school but not from he lips and hearts of the kids.

  12. I never remember any prayer in school when I went. I remember having to mandatorily  pledge allegiance to the flag..  which I'm glad kids don't have to do. It was so weird having to do that.

  13. Christians allowed one woman to take prayer and discipline out of our schools by doing absolutely nothing to stop her.

There is so much disrespect and violence in our schools today and people are wondering how this happened?

Dr. Spock said do not spank little Johnny because you will hurt his self esteem.  Look at what Dr. Spock and Madelyn O'Hare have done to our school system.  We need prayer and discipline not only in our homes but also in the schools.

  14. If prayer were still in schools the baptists and Catholics would be fighting over the proper way to say it, and suing school districts because their flavor of the lords prayer wasn't supported.

Prayer isn't the problem it is clearly parenting.

  15. Yeah.. I don't think it has anything to do with the prayer thing.. L.A. was still the ghetto.

  16. Schools AND generally Family life is so bad today,

B/c yrs ago The mothers started getting jobs, and abandoning their child to institution like childcares, and nannies.

with the women all working, the equilibriam in the homes were way off, (ideally relationships work best when the man is the bread winner or at least makes more $$).

Women stopped being good wifes, b/c instead of serving their families, they became concerned with "What is in it for them".  And their career, and their spouses and kids were left on the back burners.

So now Dad is gone working, And Mom is gone working,  who is there to join the pta, or volunteer for field trips?

Pretty soon Dad is not getting any, and mom is way to stressed after working all day to make the nice dinners, and yada yada yada, So

    Divorce begins.

I believe the current ratio for divorce to marriage is like 50/50, or perhaps divorce rate is higher than those who stay married.

So what does the NOW working And single Mom do????  Does she A.) focus on her children, who now have a broken home?

         OR

B.) find some new Man who makes her feel good about herself?

IN most cases the Answer is B!

And the father,  Yeah you guessed it he is busy remarrying also!

So now the kids have two homes, and two new "step" parents, And what do most of the parents do?

Make babies with the new spouse..........., So now the other kids really feel left out. ...........

With all that working and divorcing and remarrying, the parents really dont have that much time for their children , so the children act out, and mouth of to the parents, and by teen years it is too late for the parents to fix their mistakes and Unspoil their little brats..........

And that is why Kids today are so rotten, and younge people today (in their 20's) are so spoiled, and have such a sense of entitlement.

That is why schools are bad, However taking out prayer did not help

  17. Its not the schools itself.

Its the parents allowing their kids to be drowned in the media's image of "stupid is cool" at young ages, and thanks to those kind of parents is the reason why TV's Parental Control even exist. If only parents taught them right at the beginning, we wouldn't have this kind of problem. Of course it has nothing to do with lack of prayer. If anything, it may have to do with the high amount of it.

  18. I agree.  It's got nothing to do with prayer.  School is so bad because of a lack of Biblical foundation.  Parents not disciplining their kids, lack of love in the world, people only looking out for themselves, parents refusing to teach their own kids... etc, etc.

  19. uh,by the way..it's O'Hare....anyway....maybe it's just a coincidence the schools  went to h**l in a handbasket about the same time(?)...strange coincidence though...and for some of the posters I have some startling news for ya...I happen to be old enough to remember praying in school.and guess what... it didn't only "not" hurt us, it helped give us a respect that seems to be missing today...AND we could read, write and just about anything else, much better then, as they do now....I used McGuffey readers on some students(10th grade and up)in church once and they had some real problems trying to understand what I'd read to them--then I informed them I was reading stories that my gradparents were reading when they were in the 6th grade!...No, you're right..things haven't gone down hill at all have they?....(**most of all, it amazes me how people are soo afraid of prayer-to a God they don't even think exists?..if He dosen't exist, how could it be effective ,thus, how could it hurt?)

  20. Of course not.  It isn't like there was a huge jump in 1968 and then it was level.  It also isn't like the schools were pristine prior to it happening.

  21. If that is so then why was my average 90% last year?

  22. Prayer in schools never helped a kid learn to read or write or add 2+2.  This BS is part of the christian right's agenda to indoctrinate children so they'll be good little sheeple and do as they're told.
