I have some interest in getting a GPS unit.... and I'm exploring some options.

First of all, I have a screen in my stereo (which is "navigation ready") However, all it has is a composite video in for some kind of GPS unit... I can't seem to find anything that does not have a screen built in... (sides voice activated, which has no video out)

The other thing is I would like to know if there's any good USB GPS receivers that come with decent software.

Thanks!

  1. Tomtom or garmins are good.

  2. GPS with composite video out are quite rare and rather expensive.

Garmin GVN53 and NavNGo Limousine are the only products I know of that do it - and I've never used either.  Given the prices on them, I'd have to be really in love with the idea of not just using a dashtop.

"USB GPS receivers" covers everything from the $40 screenless/keyless mouse products to $1500 dashtops with spoken directions, bluetooth, and video players.  It's hard to recommend "good" without more information on what you're looking for, intended use, etc.

  3. Go with the Garmin!!
