  1. Place an add in Share Accommodation in The Daily Telegraph. If unemployed Some may be wary of sharing with you , so state how much rent you can afford to pay in advance

  2. Okay, I lived there for a few years.

Stay away from the western suburbs.

Live in Eastern suburbs or Manly etc.

If i were you i would get your butt there and  head straight to bondi beach, go to Hall street and make your way to the health shop....ask someone everyone knows it... they have a whole window full of share accomodation, ....ar! the memories, loved it there.  Bondi to me is like it's own little community, beach, pubs, clubs, and bondi junction has seriously everything you need massive westfields.

We used to rent a flat 2 bed for $300 per week 10 min walk from beach.  Seriously that hall street shop has so many share houses/flats good luck or you could try the below link.

  3. First of all, congratulations on choosing to come to Sydney. Its a great place.

Secondly, are you sure that 99% want female flatmates? I could have sworn that  I have walked past advertisements (on traffic light poles) that don't specify gender preference. In terms of feasible costs, I can't say too much without knowing your budget. But I think in Sydney CBD it could be $130+. Renting is getting harder these days here. Or maybe you could get some temporary accommodation here and then have a better look. Cos there are normally rent ads all over the city

  4. Well take the train to Sydney and get some temporary accomodation at one of the 100 or so backpackers accomodation places.

Check their noticeboards and also buy the Sydney Morning Herald-look under share accomodation-Saturday and Wednesday are the best.

Most share houses want you to have a job or at least be a full time student.

Where you can afford to live depends on your income.

Keep away from Redfern especially Caroline St as there is an aboriginal problem there and I would stay away from areas like Lakemba where there is a high incidence of Moslem crime
