The "loft" is the angle of the club face - NOT how high you hit the ball.  A club face has loft - the higher the number on the club the steeper the loft angle and hopefully the higher and shorter the ball flies.

3 iron hits the ball longer and lower  - face angle or loft = approximately 25 degree ??

9 iron hits the ball less distance but higher in the air - loft or face angle is near 45 degrees approximately

It's the club face angle.  The only clubs that have loft marked on them, usually, are you woods and wedges.

well, its kind of hard to explain you have to hit it at a certain angle and it goes up really high but it spins backwards so you want to aim a little past where it needs to go so that it rolls backwards toward the spot you want it to go
