Someone with HIV, Hep B and Hep C spat in my eye?

Question

Today at my work, someone with HIV, Hep B and Hep C spat in my left eye and the left side of my face.

I wiped it off and got the chance to wash my face about half an hour later.

An hour after that, I found out about the infections the person carried.

Should I be worried?

Sorry to hear this happened to you! Saliva kills the HIV virus, so you cannot get it from saliva, Hep C definitely not, the only risk is Hep B and there has not been a reported case ever of Hep B being transmitted by mouth to mouth contact, or from someone spitting at you..it just isn't contracted like that. The only reason you should get tested is for peace of mind and closure. Your injection btw was for Hep A and B, C is not an option for injection, all police officers and medical personnel, and military are required to get the Hep vaccines available, trust me you are FINE! NO RISK!

I know that HIV is not transmitted by saliva, and Hep C is transmitted by contact with infected blood, so those infections should not be an issue.  You may want to see your doctor anyway, just to be sure you did not get any other infections.

No, you do not have to worry. I doubt if this person has all these things, but why would they spit at you?

you may want to call a doctor and ask him.  However I have recently been informed by a doctor that these diseases can only be transmitted from blood.

Unless he was bleeding from the mouth, you should be ok. It would take some time for it to infect you, if at all. I wouldn't worry about the Hep C infection. Same with the AIDS. It has to be blood to blood. Still see a doctor. The person who spit in your eye needs to be reported to  the management as well as the police. A police report MUST BE FILED! What he did is called assault. Treat it as such. See an attorney, as well. A person with all of these diseases is a walking timebomb, waiting to infect.

Note: It would have been for Hep B. Hep C has only one drug at this time that has a chance to fight Hep C and it's Interfuron. You have to take injections for at least 6 months. That, of course, is only if you HAVE Hep C. There is no "shot" to prevent the infection of Hep C. I stand by what I said. You won't get anything from his spitting on you. I assume as for Hep B, he is just a "carrier"? Not in the midst of fighting an ongoing infection? I had read in the newspaper, some years ago, where an inmate with Aids, put his blood in a guards coffee. He was prosecuted for attempted murder. This jerk needs to be brought up on charges of the strictest nature. I'm sure your police force is looking into this. Good luck.

where do you work? If you work at a medical establishment you need to fill out an incident report and have them pay to get you tested.

Yes I would, you should call your local health unit or hospital and get bloodwork done.  Also, you don't say where you work but could you have been immunized from hep C or B? Anyway I would not leave it.
