Someone writing you a bad check?

Is there anything you can do when someone writes you a bad check?

You can take them to small claims court.

Also - the bank will send you the orignial bounced check.  You can try to cash it at their bank.  This will at least get you the money they owed to you (provided they have money in the bank).  Then you would just have to take up the bank fee with them.

Yes, take them to small claims court.  It's theft in the 5th degree.  You can also make them pay any charges that your bank charged you.
