It seems to me it would have went thru their account and they would have the bounce fee. Why is it I'm paying back the check I cashed.

  1. you got the money. you have to go after them for your lost cash including any bank charges

  2. the bank charges them a nsf (not sufficient funds) fee and you get charged with depositing a bad check

its totally unfair... so next time find out if the other person have enough funds.

  3. Because you're the one with the bad proceeds from the check.  You will need to give the bank back the money then go after the person who wrote the bad check for a money order / cashiers check.

  4. If you deposit a check in your account and it bounces, then you are responsible for the bounced check fee.  You need to get the money back from the person that gave you the bad check plus the bounced check fee from them.  The bank does not owe you this money.

  5. every bank [ and most businesses ] have a bad check fee. USUALLY around $15 [ USD ]

  6. Write the person who gave you the bad check, explain to them the check bounced.  Ask them to reimburse you as soon as possible and give them a deadline like to the end of the week.  If that doesn't work write to them again and tell them that you will file at a small claims court in the next three days if they don't pay up.  Then if they don't, file the claim at your local courthouse.

Try a TV courtroom if you like.  The production company pays all expenses, I believe.

  7. unfortunately banks punish the person who cashed the check. To get the money back I would take the person to small claims court to retrieve the money and fees that you were forced to pay.
