My boyfriend and I are from Ohio. There is a guy from out of state interested in buying his car. The only problem is how would my boyfriend change the title to the guy? The guy is going to send the money in the mail and then have somebody transport the car over to his base.

  1. Its not your responsibility to take care of changing the titled state. You have a title, you sign it over the the buyer, he sends it to his DMV and he gets his states title. I work at a dealership and we have to get new titles all the time when we buy cars out of state. There may be more to getting the title switched but the buyer should research his DMV so you can get what needs to be done (for example some states require a notary to sign the title etc).

  2. Your boyfriend is not the one who must transfer the title.  The new owner must do that.  Your boyfriend must fill out his title with the new owners name and address, the date of the sale, the purchase price and (usually) the mileage shown on the odometer.  He should NEVER, EVER fail to fill out the title.  They should also both sign a bill of sale showing the same information including the $ amount of the sale

  3. go to the courthouse

  4. Call the DMV in the morning. They will be able to tell you what to do.
