Somersby aims to win the Champion Chase
One of the most flaunted and anticipated horse racing events is the upcoming Cheltenham Festival. The prestigious event of this racing season has been scheduled to take place in March at the famous Cheltenham racecourse.
Trainers and connections of the most talented racehorses in the country have started preparing and training their colts for the Cheltenham Festival. Just like many other racehorses, Somersby’s presence at the great event has also been confirmed by his trainer
Henrietta Knight.
It has been reported that the talented racehorse will be going ahead to compete against his equally talented rivals in the Champion Chase that will be run over a distance of two miles in six weeks time.
Knight claimed this event will not be a piece of cake for Somersby as he will face strong competition.
The Champion Chase is not the only race Somersby will run in the Cheltenham Festival. Nonetheless, it will be the main target of the racehorse.
The seven-year old champion will also be a potential winner of the Ryanair Chase and the other racing event that will be sponsored by sportingbet.com. These two races are over five lengths for Somersby.
Somersby is indeed a favourite for bookmakers and sponsors particularly after the champion gave a spectacular performance in the Victor Chandler Chase that took place at the Ascot racecourse over a distance of 2 miles and 1 furlong last month.
Sports analysts are of the view that the Ryanair Chase will give the racehorse a better opportunity to enjoy success at Cheltenham, since he is being booked as short as 4-1 by Bet365 and Victor Chandler.
After Somersby’s splendid performance against the dominating Master Minded in the Ascot meeting, he has been declared as a champion.
Nonetheless, the trainer of the champion colt strongly feels that he should confine Somersby to only two miles for now. One of Somersby’s most fancied performances is the one that he gave in the Irish Independent Arkle Chase at the festival of the last racing
season.
Knight is optimistic about the Champion Chase, as she has also saddled Edredon Bleu in this particular event and the racehorse was successful in claiming the event back in 2000. She has been reported as saying, “Somersby is extremely well and fresh. We have
decided that his most likely race at Cheltenham will be the Champion Chase on the Wednesday. That is our aim”.
