Somerset 2nd XI double their victories against Worcestershire 2nd XI: Second Eleven Twenty20-Group B (Match 2)
Somerset 2nd XI were victorious for the second time against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Monday, June 6th,
2011. The visitors failed to chase earlier in the day, but were batting first this time around. However, they failed to post a decent total and were restricted to 129 for nine in their allotted 20 overs. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 2nd XI had won the first match convincingly
by 72 runs, but this time they chased successfully in the 19th over, losing just four batsmen.
The hosts decided to field first after winning the toss and the decision proved to be a good one, as the Worcestershire 2nd XI batsmen struggled to score runs and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals.
Opening batsman, David Wheeldon, failed to make an impression and was dismissed in the third over of the innings, after adding just six runs to the total. He was followed by his team’s captain, Neil Pinner, who managed just nine runs in is short stay at
the crease.
Opening batsman, Jack Manuel, looked solid in the middle and scored 25 runs from 21 deliveries with the help of four boundaries. He was unlucky though, as he got run-out in the seventh over, leaving his team under immense pressure.
Wickets started to tumble in the visitors’ innings and they were 77 for six at one stage of the innings. However, lower-order batsmen, Ben Cox and Alex Blofield batted with responsibility, taking their team out of trouble. The put together 39 runs for the
seventh wicket partnership before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cox-c51633 got dismissed for 38 off 24. He played well, hitting three fours and two massive sixes in his knock.
Blofield also did a decent job and managed 21 runs from 17 deliveries before being dismissed.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Max-Waller-c1935 bowled extremely well for the hosts, taking a couple of wickets each. They were also very economical and didn’t give away any chances to the batsmen to free their arms.
Somerset 2nd XI didn’t find many problems when they came out to bat, as they were given a solid opening stand of 43 runs by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jones-c69217 scored 45 runs before being dismissed.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Thornely-c1967 remained unbeaten on 18, guiding his side to victory.
Chris http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Russell-c87177 picked up one wicket for his team, but wasn’t able to cause enough damage to win the game.
