However, the visitors had a good batting line-up, which was fully capable of chasing down 196 runs for victory. They needed to keep wickets in tact in order to pressurise the opposition.
Things did not turn out to be as pleasing for the Essex 2nd XI team, as they would have expected. The batting failed miserably, as only three players managed to reach double figures.
The highest score of the innings came from two players Nick Browne and Chris Wright. Both batsmen collected 36 runs each in their respective outings, but lacked support from their team-mates.
The pitch had some assistance for the bowlers from the start of the match, but the visitors’ skipper Matt http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Walker-c95903 expected batting to become easier in the second half of the game.
This was not the case though, as there was still some movement for the bowlers and batting was not easy in the middle.
The start for the Essex 2nd XI team was a good one, as their openers Browne and Linden Lockhart collected a half-century partnership for the first wicket. The pair managed 53 runs at the top of the order, guiding the team into a very solid position.
Browne was the first man to be dismissed in the innings. He played an impressive knock of 36 runs from 41 balls with the help of seven boundaries.
Just three runs later, Lockhart was also sent back to the pavilion. He was a touch unlucky, getting run-out after staying out in the middle for a long time. His innings did not do any good to the visitors, as the opening batsman limped to just 6 runs off
47 deliveries before finally being dismissed.
The fall of the openers saw a collapse for the Essex 2nd XI team, as wickets started to tumble. The team lost seven batsmen with just 76 runs on the board. They were comfortable placed at 53/0, but lost seven wickets in a span of just 23 runs.
Lower-order players Rehan Hassan and Wright offered some resistance, collecting 60 runs for the sixth wicket partnership. They failed last longer though, getting out for 22 and 36 in their respective outings.
The entire team was dismissed for 137 runs in 37 overs, courtesy a sensational spell from Somerset 2nd XI’s bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Dibble-c917. He ended up with figures of 6-14 in 8 overs.
