The visitors piled 220 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 40 overs. The highest scorer of the innings and the match was lower-order player Sam Mount, who collected an unbeaten 53 runs.
The Kent 2nd XI team struggled in their outing and were all-out for 145 runs in less than 30 overs. Only four batsmen in the team managed to reach double figures with the highest score coming from middle-order player Chris Piesley, who scored
48 runs in the match.
The pitch was good for the batsmen, but it was expected to become a touch slower with the passage of time. This forced the Somerset 2nd XI captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lewis-Gregory-c72822 to bat first after winning the toss.
Somerset 2nd XI didn’t get off to an ideal start after their skipper decided to bat first on a dry pitch. Opening batsman, Tom Abell, was dismissed after adding just 10 runs to the total.
Just a couple of balls later, wicketkeeper batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jos-Buttler-c1733, was also sent back to the pavilion. He failed to open his account and the visitors were in a spot of bother with two wickets down for 23 runs on the board.
However, a 68-run stand between Alex Barrow and Gregory guided the team into a better position. Just when the team looked under control, three quick wickets fell and the momentum shifted towards the Kent 2nd XI side.
Barrow missed out on a half-century by seven runs, getting out for 43 runs with the help of eight fours. He played well though, giving a solid platform for the middle-order players.
Just two runs later, Gregory was also sent back to the pavilion. He failed to make most of the start he got to his innings, scoring 32 runs off 34 deliveries with the help of five boundaries.
Craig Meschede was the next man to be dismissed in the innings after adding just four runs to the total and the Somerset 2nd XI team was struggling at 96 for the loss of five wickets.
Calum Haggett and Craig Overton came to the rescue of the visitors with a 53-run partnership for the sixth wicket. They got out after scoring 31 and 38 runs in their respective outings.
The highlight of the innings was a spectacular half-century from Mount, who batted until the end of the innings, guiding the team to 220. He scored 53 runs from 34 balls with the help of eight fours and one massive six.
The hosts’ bowlers Matt http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-Hewitt-Cook-c90350 were in terrific form, picking up two wickets in the match.
