Somerset's coach Andy Hurry welcomes Rehman’s signing – Cricket News Update
Somerset county’s head coach Andy Hurry is pleased to have secured the return of promising Pakistan spinner Abdur Rehman to Taunton next summer, and is hoping to pair him with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Dockrell-c59135 in the 2013 LV = County Championship.
Rehman, who was key to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s unprecedented 3-0 whitewash of England in January this year, taking 19 wickets in three matches, on Tuesday agreed to return to Taunton as Somerset’s overseas player in the final stages of the county championship next year. He will also participate in the Clydesdale Bank 40 matches that take place during that period.
The left-arm spinner, who is currently serving a 12-week ban imposed on him by the ECB for using banned recreational drug, impressed during his brief stint with Somerset last season, taking 27 championship wickets in four games at 14.18, including best figures of 9-65 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826 at Taunton.
Somerset’ head coach Andy Hurry described the deal as a “fantastic signing” and hoped the Pakistan spinner will continue playing the role of a match-winner for the club.
“I think it’s an absolutely fantastic signing for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 County Cricket Club,” said Hurry while speaking to media reporters after finalizing the deal with the left-arm spinner.
“Everybody was aware of the contribution he made on the park towards the end of last season and the performances he put in for us were match-winning performances. He is the type of bowler who offers you the balance and quality required to dominate, control and win matches in the County Championship,” he added further.

The club’s committee chairman also revealed the details of the contract. “At the moment he is contracted to play the final few weeks of the season, which will include five championship games and one-day cricket as well. Subject to his international commitments we will try to extend his contract through into the T20 period to make him available for that as well.”
Rehman, a veteran of 17 Tests and 25 One Day Internationals, was in October handed a 12-week ban by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and Wales Cricket Board after he was tested positive for a prohibited drug cannabis. The ban ends at midnight this Friday.
