Somerset beat Gloucestershire in Friends Provident T20
Somerset beat Gloucestershire by 6 wickets in Friends Provident T20 tournament at the County Ground in Bristol on Friday. Somerset won the toss and elected to bowl first as their bowlers made good use of the overcast conditions. Gloucestershire managed to score 152 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted quota of 20 overs. Somerset, with a strong batting line-up, chased down the target without much fuss for the loss of just 4 wickets with 19 balls to spare.
Redmon and Gidm started the innings for Gloucestershire but Redmond was dismissed early in the innings with the team score at 11. He scored just 1 run and was caught by Trego off the bowling of Philips.

Marshall and Dent put on a solid stand for the 4th wicket partnership as the duo resurrected the innings and played some authoritative strokes. The partnership was broken when Dent was caught by South African player de Bruyn of Kieron Pollard’s bowling as he left the crease with a personal score of 30 runs from 27 balls with 3 fours.
Marshal also fell after adding 2 more runs to his total when he was caught by Kieswetter off the bowling of Pollard for 45 runs from 31 balls with 3 fours.

In reply, Somerset would have fancied the target, considering their international star studded batting line-up. Kieswetter and Trego put on a good stand for the 3rd wicket as the pair took the attack to the opposition who were dealing in boundaries at this stage. Trego in particular was more aggressive as he made good use of the field restrictions in the early overs. Trego smashed 8 fours and 2 big sixes on his way to a brisk 46 run innings. Hildreth and de Bruyn then came together in the middle, and with the required rate down to almost 6 runs per over, the pair batted sensibly and did not go for the big shots. De Bruyn, after a quiet period, opened his shoulders and played some big shots as he hit 2 big sixes down the ground. He was dismissed after scoring 30 runs from 30 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes. The next man to walk in was the big West Indian all-rounder Kieran Pollard. The giant from Trinidad was in a very aggressive mood as he smashed 30 runs from just 12 balls with 3 fours and 3 massive sixes. Somerset got home with more than 3 overs to spare and 6 wickets in hand. Trego was named as the man-of-the-match for his all round performance.
