Somerset beat Hampshire in an outstanding game in the Friends Provident T20 tournament at Taunton. A total of 436 runs were scored in 38 overs. Hampshire went in to bat first and scored 216 runs in their allotted quota of 20 overs. It looked like a solid score but in an astounding display of batting, Somerset knocked off the runs with 2 overs to spare.
Taunton pitch is known to offer some runs, but no one could have imagined the run feast witnessed on Friday.
Hampshire won the toss and elected to bat first. The start was a shaky one as Carberry was run out from a direct throw by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marcus-Trescothick-c1898 who scored just 3 runs from 3 balls.
Vince was the next man in and he put up a good partnership with Adams for the 2nd wicket partnership. The pair added 38 runs in just 2.3 overs. However, against the run of play, Vince was clean bowled by Philips after scoring 22 runs from just 10 balls. He smashed 3 fours and one six.
Adams added a few more runs before he was caught by West Indian player Kieron Pollard off the bowling of Turner. Adam scored 21 runs from 12 balls with 4 boundaries to his credit.
Former South African test batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-McKenzie-c2094 walked in to bat who showed his experience and started pounding the Somerset attack right from the word go.
Along with Craig Ervine, the pair continued to pile on the runs at a rapid pace. The run rate was close to 11 runs per over at one time as the two African players added 112 runs in just 11 overs. The partnership ended when Ervine was caught by Philips off the bowling of Trego. The Zimbabwean scored 53 from just 31 balls with 5 fours and 3 big sixes.

McKenzie was out after scoring 73 runs from 48 balls with 10 fours and a six. Razzaq was unbeaten at 27 from 17 balls with 3 fours and a six to his credit as Hampshire ended their innings at a mammoth total of 216 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs.
At halfway mark Hampshire would surely have thought that the match is in the bag, but the opening stand from Somerset may have made them think again.
Trescothick and Trego hit the ground running and started hitting the big shots from the first over. The pair scored at an alarming rate of more than 12 runs per over as the opening stand was broken in the 9th over. The score had already reached 116 with Trescothick batting at 78 runs from just 27 balls with 7 fours and 7 sixes.
After his dismissal, Kieran Pollard walked into the pitch. However, the West Indian was disappointing as he edged his first ball to Ervine off the bowling of Briggs.
Hildreth continued the good work with the bat and was in the groove early in his innings. Hse stroked 29 runs from just 18 balls with 2 fours and a six. However, he was run out by Ervine from a direct through.
Trego on the other hands continued to hit the big shots from the other end as he got good support from Buttler with 18 runs to his name. Trego remained unbeaten at 72 from just 44 balls with 8 fours and 3 towering sixes as Somerset amazingly got home with 2 overs to spare.
