Somerset secures a spot in the semi-final – Cricket News Update
English County side, Somerset, finally marked a spot on the proceeding Clydesdale Bank 40 competition’s upcoming semi-final match, after defeating Essex with 40 runs. The 40 overs bout came as the tournament’s Group C match, and was being played at the County
Ground, in Taunton, on Monday, August 29, 2011.

As for the team’s recent bout with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marcus-Trescothick-c1898, won the toss and chose to bat first.
However, as an unfortunate opening, the team lost Trescothick in the early moments of the bout since skipper walked off the crease after being retired hurt, leaving the team’s opening batting with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Kartik-c78034.
Both the batters added some handful runs to the total, after being parted in the 11th over of the Somerset innings, following Karthik’s loss.
Retaining his stumps for another good number of overs, Trego also went out on a caught out dismissal but marked his exit at an impressive half century.
With the procession taken over by the middle order, another impressive display with the bat came out from the players, but suffered some more blows by the Essex’s bowlers.
Losing 5 wickets in all, Somerset finally wrapped up its innings at an adequate 251, in 40 overs.
Essex, on the other hand, opened its batting session with a quick loss of wicket in the 2nd over of its innings. However, Adam Wheater and Jiak Mickleburgh managed to offer some stability for the team, but failed to go on after the team lost another
couple wickets in the 13 and 14 overs of the match.
An over later, more trouble came for the batting side after it lost its 4th player followed by Mickleburgh’s much relied wicket in the 20th over.
Mickleburgh remained to be the highest scorer for the team, bagging a notable sum of 56 from 66 balls. The player’s loss came as the 5th for the team, which by now stood at a troubling 113.
With middle order thought to have aided the side, Somerset’s bowlers kept delivering knocks at the opponent, after finally bringing an end to its misery in the 35th over.
Tymal Mills’ final wicket marked Somerset’s eventual win as well as a spot in the semi final.
