Somerset v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826: County Championship Division One – Somerset’s First Innings
A County Championship Division One match between Somerset and Nottinghamshire ended in a draw at the County Ground, Taunton in England on Saturday, August 20, 2011.
Only eight overs were bowled on the first day’s play before rain stopped play. The situation did not clear and both teams had to wait for the second day.
Conditions remained bad for cricket on day-two as well, as it kept raining. There was not even a single ball bowled on the second day and the result was almost certain from then onwards.
Toss was won by the Nottinghamshire skipper Chris Read, who put the opposition into bat. There was plenty of rain around, which left moisture beneath the surface of the wicket.
This allowed the visitors to bowl the Somerset team out cheaply in the first innings and gain control.
The hosts managed just 177 runs in their first outing with a highest score coming from lower-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jos-Buttler-c1733, who ended up with 43 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arul-Suppiah-c1084. The pair struggled to cope up with the seam and swing movement of the new ball and got out cheaply.
The latter was the first man to be dismissed in the innings after adding just 2 run to the total. Trescothick did not last long either, getting out after collecting 4 runs in his short stay at the wicket.
First-drop Nick Compton got a steady start to his innings, but failed to make most of it, getting out for 18 runs with the help of one boundary. He was followed by wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/C-Kieswetter-c1206, who managed just 10 runs in his short outing.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Hildreth-c1647 looked impressive for his 35 runs off 70 balls, but was unable to carry onto the start he got to his innings. He struck six boundaries in his outing.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Trego-c2181 was the sixth wicket to fall in the innings. He collected 21 runs before being dismissed. He was followed by Buttler, who top scored the innings with 43 runs.
The stylish middle-order batsman played aggressive cricket and faced only 55 runs for his 43 runs. He smashed eight fours in his impressive knock.
The lower-order failed to cope up with the pressure and the entire team was sent back to the pavilion after scoring 177 runs.
New Zealand’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luke-Fletcher-c1855, who dismissed three batsmen in the day.
