Somerset vs Lancashire – County Championship Division One – Live Cricket Score and Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 reached 118 for 2 at lunch on Day 1 of their County Championship Division 1 match against Somerset; currently being played at the latter’s home, County Ground Taunton, April 26, 2012.
The talking point before the game was the inclusion of twins, Craig and Jamie Overton, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 director hinting that one of them will take part in his first competitive championship fixture.
Both players had recently returned from England U-19s tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, and are considered to be potential future stars. Jamie is an out and out paceman, while his brother Craig, and is an all-rounder, capable of filling in diverse roles.
"We have had good reports about them from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 U19s' recent trip and they are in contention," Rose said. "We will make a decision on which of the twins plays shortly before the game when we have assessed conditions."
It was the latter, who got the nod as Somerset bowled first following Lancashire’s decision to have a bat. The defending champions have started their campaign on a poor note, losing their opening two matches, with the last defeat coming against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862.
They again began sluggishly as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Horton-c2167 lbw in just the first over of the game. The South African pacer signed for Somerset as their overseas player for the current season, in a bid to familiarize himself with the English conditions,
where the Proteas will come to play for a full series from July 19 against England.
Despite the initial setback, Lancs weathered out the threat of Philander, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stephen-Moore-c2572 and Karl Brown stabilizing the innings with a composed 95-run stand for the second wicket. Their partnership was marked with controlled stroke-making with Brown
taking a more aggressive approach.
The Somerset bowlers were also largely ineffective after the initial new ball burst. Craig Overton’s introduction was a high point for the watching crowd but the youngster evidently looked nervy – his four overs costing 21.
Brown reached to a well complied fifty and was given a standing ovation from his teammates. His knock was cut short four overs before the lunch interval with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lewis-Gregory-c72822 catching him in front of the stumps.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AG-Prince-c949 then guided the team to the lunch break.
