Somerset vs South Africans – Tour Match – Toss Report and Match Update
South Africans were asked to bowl in their first outing of the English summer against County Side Somerset with the match being played at the County Ground Taunton, today, July 9, 2012.
The decision of the hosts’ captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Hildreth-c1647 to bat first was a surprising one, considering the overcast conditions and the daunting bowling attack his side had to face. The early signs were hardly promising after the Proteas had reduced Somerset to 32 for 4.
However, skipper and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Trego-c2181 came to their team’s rescue, posting an unbeaten 133-run stand to end the first session at a healthy 165 for 4, scoring at almost six runs per over.
Both sides had the luxury to field in big squads for the two-day fixture, with Proteas playing all their recognized players. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473, their Test captain, made a return to the side after missing the last three months due to an ankle surgery, forcing him to opt out of the Indian Premier League’s season 5.
Marchant de Lange, the young pacer, was the only notable absentee with the player nursing a sore back.
The early exchanges put the visiting side firmly in command as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JP-Duminy-c1742 sending him back.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MV-Boucher-c2048, leaving the pitch after making 11.
Tsotsobe started brightly after cleaning up http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Morkel-c73528 and Tsotsobe.
Morkel had a dismal time after his first six balls all went for boundaries from the bat of Trego. In combined the two pacers went for 85 in their first 5-over spells, which considerably eased the pressure.
The spin of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JH-Kallis-c1692 further failed to make his presence felt. At lunch, both Somerset batters had posted half-centuries with Trego racing to 75.
