http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806, due to be played from August 1 to 4 at Aigburth in Liverpool, claiming he expects it to be a tough battle.
“They beat us there last year and went on to win the title last year, but this time round they haven’t been doing so well,” Compton said.
“This is the time of year when every team is gearing themselves up and going for that final push towards the line, so we can expect a very hard-fought game.”
Somerset are currently at number three on the Championship points table – out of the 10 matches they have played, 3 have resulted in victory, 6 have ended in draws, and 1 culminated in defeat. Lancashire, on the other hand, are third from the bottom, having
won only one of the 11 matches they have played.
“We have done well recently. We must not get ahead of ourselves, but we have a nice little formula going at the moment,” Compton observed. “...these are exciting times for the club, competing in all of the competitions, so there’s a lot to play for.”
In addition to their performance in the County Championship, Somerset have featured prominently in other domestic tournaments. Their performance in the Friends Life t20 sees them at the top of the table for the Midlands/Wales/West Group, having won 5 of
the 10 matches they have played. Their current position in the ongoing Clydesdale Bank 40 is at number 4 on the Group B points table.
In addition to the team’s recent displays, Compton’s personal performances are also looking up. The 29-year-old, a veteran of 93 first-class matches (with 6004 runs scored), 92 list-A matches (2678 runs), and 64 T20 matches (966 runs), is currently the highest
run-scorer in the Championship.
