Somerville Tattersall Stakes: A chance for Farraaj to head on for a hat trick
On Thursday it is time for the Somerville Tattersall Stakes for which trainer Roger Varian has decided to run his upcoming star horse, Farraaj. The two year old has given some pretty impressive and convincing performances which qualify him as the one to
look out for on Thursday’s race.
Even though he has run only three races but his performance throughout was skilful and focused, more of what an experienced horse would display on a track. On 27th July this season, Farraaj participated in the British Stallion Studs Supporting
British E B F Maiden.
It was a ten horse field with some note worthy representations of Richard Hannon and Mahmood Al Zarooni. Trainees of both could not beat Farraaj but were right behind him finishing just one after the other.
Farraaj was signaled to take off for the track after which the only spot where he could adjust himself was towards the rear. He made progress in the upcoming two furlongs, chased the obvious winner in the final furlong and finished quite easily almost right
behind him.
It was Brian Meehan’s Archbishop who won the maiden with Mahmood Al Zarooni’s Surfer making it to the third position.
Next month, on 29th August, Farraaj yet again took part in the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing E B F Maiden but this time he won it. The race again witnessed the participation of Mahmood Al Zarooni’s Surfer with Frankie Dettori
and this time Richard Hannon was with Endowing.
The list does not end here as the majestic Sir Henry Cecil’s Romantic was contesting too with ending up at the fifth position.
Farraaj was travelling strong ever since he broke out and chased the leader over two furlongs out, the final furlong brought Farraaj to the lead which he maintained until he was for surely through the wire. Crossing the wire behind him was Peter Chapple-Hyam’s
She Spirit Di Su.
He will be able to win the right next one which was not the most popular prediction before the race but Farraaj was all set for giving surprises that day. On 14th September at the VVB Engineering Novice Stakes Farraaj left an everlasting mark
by winning it.
Towards the second furlong he had to push with more determination as compared to the rest of the furlongs as he needed to get clear in that particular furlong. This he achieved as in the next furlong he was the one in command and held firm grip on the pace
in the final furlong till the end.
Richard Hannon’s Tell Dad was second, Mahmood Al Zarooni’s Kinglet stood third and Barolo Top under charge Tom Dascombe was fourth.
His smooth performance and consistent effort has led Roger Varian become expectant about the victory at the Somerville Tattersall Stakes at Newmarket on Thursday. If Farraaj wins this one then the young 2-year-old will surely be in for a hat trick.
