I'm 15 years old and I think there is something wrong and weird going on with my skin. I have been going under a lot of stress since school just started [I'm in AP classes]. One time when I was on a camping trip, the skin on my v@gina hardened and darkened for a day and I thought it was really weird and freaked out, but I didn't tell anyone. I know... I'm stupid. But then the next day, the hard, dark and dry skin peeled off so I dismissed it.

It happened again and I'm worried that I might have staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSS). What do you think and what should I do?

  1. I suggest since you are 15 you tell your mom - hopefully you can get someone to examine you and help you to the best ability.

It's hard to diagnose over the internet and if you believe it's SSS it's best to let a doctor diagnose you -

Some strains of S. aureus produce toxic shock syndrome toxin, which are the causative agent for toxic shock syndrome.

  2. Well Im not sure either sweety, but if I were you,I would definately talk to my mom or any adult that you trust, then seek medical help from your doctor. If you dont have a doctor or any health insurance, you can always go to your county health department. That's what I do! They can do just about everything at health departments, from vaccinations, to birth control, pregnancy tests, and even pap smears! You should really talk to a doctor though for real, because it might not be anything serious, but you never know right...Good luck girl!

  3. SSSS primarily is a disease of children.

The disease can occur individually or as outbreaks in nurseries.

Most children (62%) are younger than 2 years, and almost all (98%) are younger than 6 years.

SSSS is very rare in adults, with fewer than 50 cases formally reported in the literature. Adults with SSSS are most often immunocompromised or have renal failure.

At 15, you should see a GYN.  She can tell you what your condition is.
