  1. i agree! what about the kids here in the U.S.? i think we've done a LOT for people in foreign countries but i want more for here at home. and you cant say that caring about your child having adhd over kids dying in africa is really so horrible. put yourself in their shoes! also, not everyone in this world is capable of donating to charities and a lot more have no free time to do volunteer work. granted a lot do nothing because it's convenient but what about the rest of us. dont spread so much hate. post a blog with a list of charities that are well credited or raise money yourself at a bake sale and tell people what the money is going to do (not just what charity its going to) and spread some love in this world. thats the only way we are going to win!

  2. because they feel its not their problem.they'll say "someone else will do it" when nobody will. they just want to make things better for themselves and be happy

  3. Its called materialism.  Its called selfishness.  You can't change people like that.

  4. I think for some people is it an extreame case of being self centered.  Which is self explanatory.

For others I think they are sheltered.  You know the saying "out of site out of mind"?  If they cannot see the homeless, starving, etc then they tend to forget that there are other things more important than their ipod.

Then many other people may have the mentality of "why should i help there are 6 billion people in this world, let someone else do it."  It's the same reasoning to why you can have someone being mugged on a crowded street and no one will stop to help.  Everyone thinks "why should i help when there are so many other people here to do something."  However if that person were the only one there when the mugging happened then they would be more likely to help because they would feel a since of responsibility or perhaps guilt.  If we had only 1 millionaire in the world and the rest of us were poor and struggling then that millionaire would probably feel more obliged to help out.  but since there are lots of people who are well off and other people hardships are not directly in their face they are less likely to help.

I suppose this explains why they do not make the effort to help others as apposed to spending money on c**p that will wind up in the garbage after a few years anyway.  However, it does NOT excuse the behavior.

You are right to point out that our society has a huge problem with this.  If we could only care more about others and be less selfish this world would be a much better place.  Thank you for asking this question.  It is nice to know someone else out there thinks about these injustices.

  5. you must be awesome at parties.

look, i would work on your approach.  nobody would want to agree with you with that self-rightous tone.

  6. ppl do care.  thus all the save darfur stuff and all the red stuff and the one foundation, all of those groups are pretty popular and go towards africa.  its not that ppl dont care.  but i think even though all of that is going on some people are not educated about all the facts about it.  and some people just dont care since it isnt here.  alot of people feel like that since we are in america we should only care about america.  i can understand your point but i think it is just such a negative subject that some ppl just dont want to be down by the thought of it.

  7. We live in a materialistic world! Plain and simple...its all about #1 for people anymore. h**l half of these people anymore don't even care about their OWN children, just themselves and how hard THIER lives are since they had kids and such.....I'm not saying I am a saint becuase by no means am I...I donate to churchs(secondhand stuff likes baby clothes and whatnot) but I do not donate to charities or anything like that due to lack of funds to even be able to do so. I have 2 daughters and another one on the way so my money goes towards my children. I do not own Ipods or anything like that or even care to...I have my computer for business and ocassional amusement when my children are asleep(yahoo answers rocks!!) But thats it...I own(well I pay a monthly payment on it) a USED mini van that is not any kind of current year(its a 98 so its 10 yrs old) I still have most of the same clothes I had when I was pregnant with my first daughter(almost 4 1/2 yrs ago)...and stuff like that

All in all people look out for themselves and in this materialistic world they must have the new things on the market in order to survive....its sad really

  8. There is a lot of suffering in this world. Yes, give to charity, write letters to congress and the media about issues you feel passionately about. Do not judge others because they dont let these issuses eat them up inside. I personally let these things eat me up, and I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. Many rich people, and not rich people give and give to charity. There are some out there who really do not give, becuase they have never been touched by poverty, etc. We can't blame them for having lived a good life, and not knowing what a blessing it it to give. God has a plan.

ADHD may not be a serious as starving children, but it's still an everyday issue that a lot of parents have to deal with, its personal.

This may seem irrelivent, but also, there are false charities out there, that scam people. We everyday people have to be careful who we give our money to, it may be crooks, unless we know it is a well established charity organization.

In utopia everyone would be cared for, and i pray everyday for God to reveal utopia to us (besides heaven :P), until then, all i can do is pray for more unity in the world.

    Rambling, sorry, circular mind  :P....

  9. I would respond by saying that charity begins at home. If your own child is not well then that should be attended to first. I would ask you, and others like you, why you are so concerned about children in Africa when there are many children right here in the good old USA who do not have enough to eat, have no decent place to sleep and are not getting an education. If your own house is in disorder then you will not be able to marshal all your available resources for the assistance of others. It therefore stands to reason that you will be able to help others more effectively if you first put your own house in order; and ours is definatelly not in order.

  10. maybe because most people don't feel as strongly about these issues as you do. Not everyone is going to get fired up and join in for every cause every time for every thing.
