Question:

Something always puzzled me about SS...?

Ok, so bear with me on this one...

Obviously you have a SS and a FS on the field at any given time. Also people refer to 'Strong-side' LB and 'Weak-side' LB. I would hazard a guess that the strong-side LB is on the same side as the SS?

In that case, what makes that particular side 'strong'? My guess (and it really is a guess!) is that that side is throwing side of the QB, therefore his stronger side as he has better vision of that side of the field?

Please correct me if that's wrong, thanks all!

  1. it depends on the playbook, but generally the strong side on an offense is the one where the tight end is lined up or the side with more players on it.

sometimes the defense will switch the strong side and weak side linebackers according to the offense,

but generally they stay on the left of the defense (the right of the offense) because that is traditionally the strong side.

The safety's pretty much always stay the same though, strong on the left, free on the right (of the defense)
