well i am 13 years old, and I'm home schooled so over this school year i would like to have a responsibility that also has some fun in it. one idea i had was a pet, like a mouse or a dog, because you have to take care of them which is the responsibility part but they are also fun to play with. but my parents said i couldn't get a pet because we already have a dog but it is in love with my mom and constantly is with her and sleeps with her in her bed. so what could i get that's a responsibility but is still fun!? HELP! PLEASE!

--sorry this is under homework help i wasn't sure what else to put it under!

  1. If you like kids, babysitting would be a natural for you. Children and babies are lots of fun, taking care of them is both a responsibility and a learning experience, and you'd earn some money besides. I started babysitting at 12, just watching kids for a few hours during the day (summers and weekends for me) so their moms could go shopping or have some time to themselves. Your home schooling means you're one of the few teens available during the weekdays for something like this. By 13, I'd added evening sitting hours, and you can, too. You can do reading and projects on childcare as well.

Another possibility is doing some container gardening, which is becoming popular again. You'd grow some vegetables, herbs and fruits indoors under grow lights and have the fun of eating them - perhaps also cooking them.

  2. One idea for gaining responsibility is to join a club like 4H or AWANA where you can do projects.  In 4H, we were involved in arts and crafts,  photography, cake decorating, horse, rabbit, goat and so on.  There are so many people who volunteer in 4H to help children learn skills that will be beneficial to their lives that you can probbly find that special project for you within your local 4 h chapter. In our area we had a project for fixing bikes, bee keeping..... 4H has meetings every month for your project and a meeting for the club.  The children elect officers like president, secretary and so on and you learn how to manage meetings and keep minutes and you compete at county and state fairs with your finished projects and 4H events like Speech.

There is a lot of responsibility because you must keep a book of all your meetings and progress during the year and you turn the book in at the end of the year for judging.  It is fun and if you try really hard, you can earn ribbons and medals.

If this is too much for you and your mom, you might want to prepare the meal once a week.  You can prepare a menu, set the table in the proper fashion, decorate the table with a theme, prepare a shopping list and so on.  Maybe you can make the table decorations for Thanksgiving.

Home schooling gives you more opportunities to work on what really interest you by exploring your own interests.  Try to think of other ways you can do projects that involve skills you are good at and really enjoy.

    Good Luck
