  1. It's most likely a salivary gland infection. They suck. I got one one time and my cheeks swelled up like a chipmunk! Every once in a while you'll get an awful taste in your mouth and it can take a couple of days for the antibiotics to work. Mine got worse before it got better.

*edited to add* not sure if your dr told you but it will swell worse after eating, or smelling. Don't let anyone in the house make popcorn lol. Anything that smells good enough to make your mouth water will cause sever swelling.

  2. sounds like it could be an infection.  ANything that puss comes out of has an infection. Just keep taking the antibiotics because if you stop taking them it could get worse and then the doctor will have to give you another type of antibiotic cause you will mess up your ammune system. It also could be a canker sore. Canker sores hurt like heck!!!  They hurt day and night and all the time...try sucking some ice.  THis might help soothe the pain.

  3. Hi Prachi,

It can be one of the following :

    1. An infection of the salivary gland duct. That is why you are noticing the pus. Then again, since the antibiotics is not helping that might not be the case.

    2. You mentioned that it feels hard like a ball upon palpation. That does not seem like a simple infection or inflammation.

    3. It also depends on when you feel the pain. If the pain starts immediately after eating, that may be an indication of a stone in the salivary duct. We call it "Sialolith".

    4. It can also be a cyst. A small sac filled with water that feels hard. However, the likelihood that it is a stone and not a cyst is higher.

Ask your dentist to take an occlusal (view) x-ray. If that does not reveal the exact lesion, an MRI can also be done.

It will not go away if it turns out to be a stone or a cyst.

Your general dentist will have to refer you to an Oral Surgeon in that case.

You will HAVE TO get that surgically removed.

Hope this helped. Good luck !!
