Question:

Something has happened to my defragmenter?

it does eventually complete the defragmentation but it's as if it spends an age analyzing before the display graph kicks in never had this before can anyne help please

  1. Start it before you go to bed and night, and when you get up in the morning it will be done


  2. sounds like you either have a high level of fragmentation, or your computer is kind of slow.

  3. It may have been horribly bad fragmented and as well you could be low on disk space.  Defrag works better when youve got a lot of free space for it to shuffle files around in.

  4. You've either got a trojan defragmenter (1/10 likely), a computer that has become slow due to having to run newer and newer software updates and patches for the hardware (4/10 likely), a massively fragmented hard drive perhaps due to a virus (7/10 likely) or you've got a close to or full hard drive (7/10 likely). Those figures weren't from surveys or anything I just consulted my intuition as to relativity. Here's a fantastic freebie malware remover.

  5. The more files there are on your hard drive, the longer it takes to analyze all of them. If you have more hard drive space being used than normal it would cause it to take a long time.
