  1. If you already surf I would avoid the fun board.  You may want to consider a fish.  They paddle more like a long board but are way more maneuverable.

  2. shortboard all the way =] heart them.

  3. short board

  4. 9'2" is a huge board, by todays standards.

They are great fun and make excellent paddle boards  or big wave break through boards.

    Get a 7' (ish) gun.

Of course your weight, hight and stuff are concerns in the choosing or enjoyment of a ride, as is attitude.

I could wax poetic and ask do you carve the wave up or does the wave allow you to enjoy the beauty that it is.

It is a yin-yang of surfing that some never get.

    I still try.

  5. A bigger fish, or maybe a 7'6" funboard will be good transition boards for you. I learned on a 7'6" x 21 1/2, and now rip a 6'1" x 18 1/4. My transition board was a 6'10" x  19 x 2 5/8. Alot depends on your size and the type of waves you are surfing. I'm 5'8" about 160 . good luck

  6. get a funboard if your not too tired of the longboard.  If you are REALLY tired of the longboard then I would just go for a short board

  7. I would try both a shortboard and a funboard from friends and see which one you feel would get you to where you want to go.  But, I strongly recommend that you keep your longboard and keep riding it so you don't lose your ability to switch boards.  Plus, there will be days when a longboard is really the best board to ride, so you should have one available.

I have friends who have difficulties switching from long to short and back to long.  But, those that do not have difficulties with the switch tell me that it just takes practice by doing it often.  So, you should still ride your longboard regardless, and that way you'll be better prepared to switch boards when you have to with no difficulties.
