I had a red light violation from May 2005; it should have dropped off in May 2008 but, when I got a DMV printout of my driving record Monday, it's still there. Why?

  1. It may go by the posting date of the ticket.  When did you actually PAY the fine for the ticket?  It normally gets posted on your record after it is paid for.

  2. I don't know about where you live, but where I live the points come off after 3 years, but the incidents still show on your record afterwards. It's either 5 or 7 years.

    Check with your DMV

  3. its suppose to come off after 3 years

check with your DMV, maybe they made a mistake or something

  4. It might depend on what else you have on your record. If you are certain it should be dropped, contact the DMV and request your record be reveiwed and any corrections be made. Your state may be behind on their driver license updates, as well. If alcohol was a factor in this ticket, it will remain on your record for ten years. Insurance companies are allowed to see 3yrs back, employers can see 5yrs back. Any alcohol or drug offenses remain on record for ten years.
