Something very strange the middle of the road

Question

I was walking down the street on Saturday and I saw a teenage girl who was covered in yellow ribbons.

She was screaming, "they hurt, they burn, take them off please!!"

I took them off and she had scorch marks all over her body.

Then she screamed, "put them back on!, I love it!"

What was happening here?

Sometimes when a person is hurt for so long, he or she gets used to the pain to the hurt, and get scared when this is taken away because they don't know how to live in another way. All we can do with these sort of people is to stay near to check up on them and offer a shoulder when they want to cry, but without creating high hopes that one day they will learn to live without the yellow ribbons.
