Question:

Something went wrong with ebay?!?

A couple of days ago, i bid on something for 122 dollars, and i checked back later to see that someone had bid for 130. I assumed i didn't win, because i wasn't the highest bidder, THEY were.

So then i sign on and see that i won the item. I think how can that be, because i wasn't the higher bidder.

And because i knew i wasn't the higher bidder i bid on something else. I bought the second item because i KNEW i wasn't going to be winning the first item i bid on.

I'm not sure what went on, because some how i bid on the first item, someone bid higher than me but i won?!

What do i do?! I cant pay the money, because i already paid someone else, and i wasn't supposed to win the first item or i wouldn't have bid on another one. I told them what happened and they just denied there was a second bidder, which i know there was .. please help me what can i do? In an email they said their going to file a grievance with Ebay.

The higher bidder must have deleted there bid because something went wrong ..

  1. you cant get delete ur bid the truth is that they were trying to scam you to pay more so they some 1 bid on it and sense you didnt bid again the cancel the bid the seller is the only 1 that can do that plz try and call ebay good luck but i say f them and take that 1 strike

  2. Here is what may have happened:

Check the bid history on your item. It is possible that the bid above you was canceled or rejected by either the seller or eBay. That left you as the high bidder. Canceled or rejected bids are listed at the bottom of the bid history page.

If you wish, provide the eBay item number and I can check it myself. I can see where this would be really annoying, but it does happen. If so, you are on the hook to pay for the item.

Here is an example of a lot where a bid was retracted (scroll clear to the bottom for Bid Retraction and Cancellation History):

    http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...

This is proof that it can and does happen. Here was a case where that is exactly what happened.

  3. You need to go to My eBay and review the auction.

Clearly if you won for $130, you bid more than $122.

Second, you owe the seller their money.  Even if a bid is cancelled by the seller or erroneously retracted by the bidder, the winner when the auction ends IS the winner.  You can't just assume, I've lost, let's go bid on something else.  eBay's bidding page told you that.

You will have to graciously try to bribe the seller.  Offer them $10-$20 for their trouble and expenses and ask them if they will let you off the hook.  They don't have to do it.  If you fail to pay, they can file an unpaid item dispute.  Because you cost the seller money (which eBay does NOT refund), eBay takes the complaint seriously.  eBay may suspend you, limit your ability to bid or kick you off of eBay forever.
