  1. Most of the time, people are just making small talk or teasing when they claim one of these superstitions to be true.  Less often, they are trying to imply something.  For example, if they want you to think that someone is talking about you, they may mention the superstition when you mention your ear is ringing.

  2. As someone else said, those types of saying are called "superstitions."

  3. It's just a figure of speech, it's doesn't really mean someone really is talking about you when your ears are ringing or if your foot itches, ect....They are just a bunch of myths.

Chances are you heard some form of the saying before. Maybe it was "If your right ear itches, someone is speaking well of you and if your left ear itches, someone is speaking ill of you."

Or the more popular, shorter version "If your ears are ringing, someones talking about you."

Whatever variation of the phrase you've heard, this old wives' tale is one that holds no truth. But it does have an ancient background - and indirectly raises what could be an important issue to address if you are experiencing ringing in your ears (left or right or both!)

If you are the topic of other people's conversations when you are not present, unfortunately your ears won't clue you in.

  4. When my palm itches, I typically do get money. Who knows if it's really a coincidence or a sign.

  5. I've heard them differently:

Your palm itches: You're going to get money

Your ears are red: someone is talking about you

You Nose itches: someone is coming

You drop something in the kitchen: someone's coming hungry

You have the hiccups: You're growing

    These are all just superstions

But sometimes, they do end up happening!
