Question:

Something wrong with my cat?

My senior female cat is depressed because I introduced a male kitten 5 days ago.

She eats less than normal and is less active, I think that's normal because of the kitten, but she has one entire day without pooping,

She only pees, and today she hasn't p**p yet. I fear she might be constipated. she is a very healthy cat, this is the first time it happens.

is her depression responsible? i heard that olive oil is good

what can you tell me? should i be concerned?

  1. It seems that your cat might be having trouble acclimating to the new kitten but that may go away or not.

Your best bet is to take her to the vet due to her advanced age. If money is a concern, most vet clinics offer payment plans or discounts for low-income people.

I wouldn't try giving her olive oil. That doesn't sound like a good idea. You could get some of that "Kitty Grass" for her to chew on and to help her digestive system.

Do the best for your cat! She deserves it!

  2. There is a pet laxative called Lax'aire that you can get from the vet.  I don't know if they have it at pet supply stores, but cats love it and it works well.  Also, give her some extra attention and loving so she doesn't think she is being replaced.

  3. I think its just that she is eating very little because of her depression of maybe its a hairball. I suggest you wait 2 more days, if she stars vomiting food then take her to the vet immediately!

  4. If she's eating less than normal, then she will be pooping less than normal.

If you see her in the litterbox straining to have a bowel movement, or if she goes another day without having one, then give the vet a call.

  5. Hairball?

  6. Cats don't adapt to change as well as humans - give her a day or two to get used to the idea.  If she hasn't pooped in by Saturday night, then call the vet on Monday and make an appointment, there might be another issue.  Keep her favorite food and fresh water available, and she will eat when she is ready.  Did you slowly introduce the kitten into the house or just throw them together?  Getting to know each other through the door is much better than just putting them in the same room and making them get along - it causes anxiety and stress - for both animals. Don't be surprised if your cat does something like pee on your bed or clothes.
