  1. oh well, this could also be a problem with your service provider. sometimes the internet cuts off in my house and sometimes it gets a little slower. but most of the time, works fine :)

definitely does not have anything to do with the pc

  2. It sounds like it overheated.  Turn it off and leave it alone for a few hours, then try it.

If it's old it's probably collected a lot of dust over time, especially around the cooling fans.  That really affects overheating.  If you do not know how to take it apart and clean it out, take it to a PC store and ask them to do it for you.  Sounds like it's time they give it a once-over anyway.

  3. Run a full virus scan. Then do a defragmentation and disc clean-up located in the Start menu then system tools. If this still doesn't work then you will most likely have to reinstall windows. Which is of course the last resort.

  4. It could be a number of issues that causes your computer to run slow.  I would restart in safe mode and disable some start up items.  Then run a spyware remover or virus scan and finish up with a disk defragment.  These will cover many of the issues that could cause a slow computer.

To start in safe mode, restart your computer and right after the bios screen, keep tapping F8 until a boot screen comes up asking you how you want to boot.  I would choose safe mode, or if you want internet access then safe mode with networking.

Then when your computer starts up, go to start, run, and type msconfig.  There is a tab that says "start up" and the menu contains every program that starts up when windows starts.  It's self explanatory, just uncheck the programs that may be causing the slowness or could be a possible virus.  DO NOT disable anything in the /system32 path.  If there are viruses in the system32 folder then your anti-virus will take care of it.

Next, a spyware cleaner like Spybot Search and Destroy or Windows Defender will work.

I assume you know anti-virus so we'll skip that

Then to defrag your hard drive  go to start; program files; accessories; system tools; disk defragmenter and run that.

    Then restart.

It wouldn't hurt to uninstall programs you don't use anymore as well.

    Hope this works.

  5. Try running a virus or Spybot scan.
