The computer was fine the night before when I used it, and I have been logged off, and the computer shut off. How can I become unprotected? I have McAfee Security Suite.

  1. You may have to update your McAfee most likely to get new security updates.

  2. Does the message go away, can you verify on the main window that it is operating after a minute?

If so it is probably just starting up, you only have a problem if the main window after a minute still says your computer is not protected.

If this is the case check in settings to make sure that autorun or similar is enabled, if it is then you may want to do a repair install, go to control panel > Add or Remove Programs and select McAfee and then select >repair<, if available(note it may require you to insert your cd that came with it), if not select >change< or >modify< and then repair.

If none of these is available then uninstall and reinstall.

  3. This is probably happening at startup and all your startup programs haven't loaded completely, once McAfee gets loaded is this message still there? My laptop does this when I open it back up after I closed the lid, my message comes from Windows saying I'm not protected, then my virus scanner and firewall load (just a few seconds later) and the message goes away.  My virus scanner and firewall are then working correctly.
