A few weeks ago, my outlets blew out for no apparent reason... I haven't been using my outlets for a month since I was on vacation.. so maybe that's part of the reason they aren't working right. Everything I had plugged in works fine to this day. Nothing broke. Just yesterday, I found that my outlets were working again.. But today, they blew out again when I plugged something in. This is only the outlets in my room. The other outlets else where still work fine... Any suggestions on what I should do?

  1. This seems very serious.

You did not indicate if you tripped the circuit breaker or blew fuses.  If this happened the outlets would not be energized until the breaker was reset or fuse replaced.  You did not indicate this has happened but this would explain the behavior.  If this is actually what is going on, you are connecting too many appliances on the circuit and the circuit is interrupted to prevent a disaster.

If no fuses were replaced or circuit breakers were reset your wiring is in a very bad shape and must be examined by a trained electrician.  Your safety is at stake.

  2. Check the reset buttons in the house.  Check the fuse box. Do you have too many things plugged it a socket. This is very serious, find out the problem. You do not want a electrical fire . Good luck!

  3. you need to have a electrician check your house out that sounds like a short /could burn your house down

  4. If you are talking about receptacles into which you plug devices, it is quite likely that the internal electrical contacts are worn so that some plugs do and some do not make contact.  (Technically, an outlet is anything that uses electricity.)  If that's the case, replacing the receptacle(s) should eliminate the problem.
