  1. Pack them each a back pack picnic lunch, and go for a hike. Also bike riding out to the lake or river for a picnic is cool. Also you might like to inquire about different organizations that are designed for children. Like the Boys and Girls club. They will have a small fee for the year,  and the kids go swimming and tons of cool thing.

  2. My wife and I have been to Kent many times for short breaks and hols and we think it is a rather expensive place to visit (We do live in Yorkshire). However I am rather keen of late on Bird-watching and there are some marvellous walks down your way. We've noticed they sem to do quite a few special offers for the ferries for day trips to Calais etc, providing you have current passports. With a decent pair of binolulars you can see France for nowt. If you pop into your local information office I'm sure they could advise you better than I can.

  3. I used to live in Kent as a child and we used to go to Joss bay on the train, we all thought we'd be bored but it's lovely if the weather is good, lots of rock pools for the younger ones and sunbathing with a mag for the older ones. Ice skating in Gillingham is good but a little expensive, depends on where you live, Kent is a big place.

  4. Take them hop-picking. You will all live in a hut,no rent to pay, and get paid for the hops you pick. So you will all have a country holiday and come back home with more money than you started out with!!.

  5. Can I suggest the Medway Towns. Rochester has a Norman Castle and a Cathedral, there is the River Medway itself and a whole lot of Dickensian connections. Just down stream are the old Naval Dockyards at Chatham. £32.50 for a family ticket for 4, which you may or may not consider as good value for a day out.

Here are other links about what is available in the area:

You can obviously save money by taking your own sandwichs/snacks/drinks. also by booking ahead for Rail or Coach fares (tip: look up "Fun Fares" on National Coach site). There are rail stations at Rochester, Chatham and Gillingham as well as bus services.
