Question:

Somewhere nice to visit in NW UK?

The kids are going to their dads today, and I would like to take the GF out somewhere nice.

I am looking for somewhere nice to go, somewhere different. We don't have bags of money, and don't want to pay to go somewhere like Chester Zoo, but we also don't want to go hiking.

I'm looking for places that are a little different. I'm sick of Blackpool, Southport and the likes, and want somewhere nice.

Any ideas?

  1. the lakes! plenty to do, most of it quite cheap. depends on the weather though

  2. NW UK is somewhere in Scotland surely? NW England would be Blackpool etc...

Just look at a map of UK - you'll find Blackpool etc are situated around the middle of GB/UK but certainly NOT NW.

  3. I recommend to you The Isle of Bute in the mouth of the River Clyde. It's just great for kids...empty beaches and coves, open countryside for roaming, a 9th Century castle and Spooky Standing Stones, colony of200 seals, lots of wild deer and hares, Mount Stuart House a Gothic masterpiece just waiting for Hammer Films to find it. And it's very accessible by public transport (highly subsidised) and there's lots of buses on the island and up into Argyll.

  4. Try Hampton Court Palace in London. Thats where King Henry the 8th lived. Resons

    Magnificant sights

A maze that took us 2 hours to find the middle but turnes out all you do is go right when you enter it lol

And the most important to me-

The gardens. They have a massave fountain where my husband proposed to me.

    You should go there!!

Or just ask where she wants to go.

  5. Go to Ilkley a walk on the river, afternoon tea at Betty's. Then walk over the cow and calf rocks

  6. harrogate is nice.

if you do go betty's cafe is a must do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Why not cross the border and go and visit North Wales.

There are lots of gorgeous areas - you don't neccessarily have to hike.

Try following the canal paths from Froncysyllte Aqueduct (amazing views as you cross it) all the way to Llangollen (lovely town).

The best bit about following a canal path is that it is flat!!

    Enjoy your day.

  8. UK includes Scotland England Wales & N Ireland.

Therefore NW UK would be the Hebrides, Shetlands etc; do you mean NW ENGLAND?

  9. A picnic by a lake?  Very romantic, cheap and doesn't have to involve hiking or slot machines.

  10. Try Heaton Park in Manchester-it's one of the biggest municipal parks in Europe.Lots to see & do-nice grounds,a lake, the Hall,a farm/petting zoo, plenty of places for a picnic etc..

Or the Lake District-Windermere is pretty and so is Kendal. Then there's the Peak Distict/Hope Valley-some really pretty little villages there.
