  1. What it could be depends alot on where you are...obviously the thought of bears is probably not valid if the lake you are speaking of is on Long Island....

Anyway...in areas where there are populations of Bald Eagles, you often times see fish on the shoreline that look like this after the birds have finished eating their prey.  The Eagles will dive down, grab the fish behind the head in the dorsal area and then carry it to shore wihere the bird eats the softer underbelly area.

Depending where you are, I bet it's birds; Eagles, Osprey, or similar.

  2. Chupacabra.

    Or maybe a snakehead.

  3. It is probably a muskrat eating them after they wash up on shore.  I have seen them get into my wire baskets and eat all of my fish before

  4. as it gets closer to a bears hibernation they start to gorge their selves this could be your issue

  5. Possibly eels or turtles.  There does not have to be a correlation between the bite and the evisceration.  The events could be separate.  Could also be happening after the fish is dead, post mortum.

You should post this question in Zoology.

  6. Stop making cents covered it pretty well.Things to look for on an algae bloom would obviously be a lot of moss/weedy sloppy looking green stuff surrounding the shoreline. When this happens it drains the oxygen from the water and leaves the fish with little.I'm guessing this is what happened.Call your state's DNR or your local government and see if they will do anything.

  7. Bears are notorious for eating intestines and the heads of fish and leaving the rest behind.

However, you may have had an algae bloom or general hard-water fish kill and animals (Fox, 'Coons, Coyote, Bears, Etc) are feeding on the already dead fish.

Check the PH of your lake. Notice any extra algae or weed-growth. If it's a number of dead fish "at one time" then it isn't an animal or predator.

A good idea is to call your local DNR/Freshwater Fish Commission if you do have hard-water/algae bloom in your lake.

    Hope this helps? Good luck!
